Instructor of Record
Introduction to Social Statistics
I designed and taught Social Statistics, a required upper-division sociology course at the University of Virginia. Creating an active learning environment that integrated lecture and hands-on practice, I introduced students to the foundations of statistical analysis and challenged them to become more critical consumers of social research. In addition to two in-class exams, students completed independent research papers that analyzed data from the National Study of the Changing Workforce to answer a specific, individually developed research question. Course syllabus.
I also completed the Tomorrow’s Professor Today certificate program at the University of Virginia.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
I served as a graduate instructor for nine distinct undergraduate courses, including Social Statistics, Research Methods, Social Theory, Gender & Society and Sociology of the Family, and a graduate-level statistics courses. Responsibilities included planning and leading independent lab or discussion classes on a weekly basis, grading and assisting with the development of course materials.
